I recently upgraded a few 2960 switches to 15.0(1)SE, and while they are working fine, I did notice a strange syslog message upon boot-up that wasn't previously there. The message is as follows: *Mar 1 00:00:39.535: %DC-4-FILE_OPEN_WARNING: Not able to open flash:/dc_profile_dir/dc_default_profiles.txt *Mar 1 00:00:39.535: %DC-6-DEFAULT_INIT_INFO: Default Profiles DB not loaded. I did some cursory searching via google but nothing useful presented itself. Does anyone know what this is for? Thank you in advance, Ed

Hi Ed,
this one is known cosmetic bug and doesn't have operatoin impact. Will be fixed once 15th gets matured.
HTH,
Ivan.

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling it was only cosmetic.
Can you tell me what it's for though?

Ed,
The error message implies the switch has not loaded the default profile file on the flash. I am not sure where this profile arises though.
Hope that clarifies,
Ivan.

Right. I was just curious about what the "profile" is for.
Thanks

Ivan,
Is there a bug ID associated with this that I can look up?
Do you know what this "profile" is for?

Edward,
since the bug is cosmetic in nature it has been decided not to post it on CCO, rather to fix it in the upcoming releases. I frankly am not sure what the profile stands for, because I have little to know exposure to that type of platforms.
Cheers,
Ivan.

I am sitting here a 'few' years later just upgraded a:
- WS-C2960-24TT-L running SW Image C2960-LANBASEK9-M IOS version 15.0(2)SE11 (c2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-2.SE11.bin)
I still see the following while connected at console after IOS boot:
- %DC-4-FILE_OPEN_WARNING: Not able to open flash:/dc_profile_dir/dc_default_profiles.txt
- %DC-6-DEFAULT_INIT_INFO: Default Profiles DB not loaded.
Just to note, at this time this version is the latest available from the CISCO software download page.

Workaround for the Catalyst 2960 DC-4-FILE_OPEN_WARNING error
The IOS is looking for the "dc_default_profiles.txt" file in the flash directory for a folder named "dc_profile_dir" and failing to find it, creates the error message. The "dc_default_profiles.txt" file is located under the IOS directory (flash:/c2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-1.SE). Cisco programmers will need to correct the installation & lookup of the file. Until then, here's the workaround.
Workaround steps:
1. Create the dc_profile_dir in the flash directory
#mkdir flash:/dc_profile_dir
2. Change path to the IOS directory
#cd flash:/c2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-1.SE
3. Copy the "dc_default_profiles.txt" file to the proper directory
#copy flash:/c2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-1.SE/dc_default_profiles.txt flash:/dc_profile_dir/dc_default_profiles.txt
4. Verify file
#cd
#cd flash:/dc_profile_dir
#dir
You should see the file in the directory:
570 -rwx 61977 Feb 28 1993 19:16:53 -05:00 dc_default_profiles.txt
The IOS now will locate the file and not return any more error messages when the switch is rebooted.
Attached is the dc_default_profiles.txt if you are interested in viewing it.

Running c3750e-universalk9-mz.152-2.E.bin here and seeing:
Mar 29 21:03:10.291 EST: %DC-3-MAX_OUI_EXCEEDED: total OUI found=%d exceeds the max supported=%d .
Mar 29 21:03:10.291 EST: %DC-3-OUI_INIT_FAIL: OUI Table initialization failed for flash:/dc_profile_dir/dc_default_profiles.txt
How can I edit flash:/dc_profile_dir/dc_default_profiles.txt so that auto smartports wil work with this version?
All I see are the built-ins:
980-chester-switch#show macro auto monitor type
Mar 29 21:05:29.425 EST: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by cisco on vty0 (172.26.29.85)
