Hello All,
I see following configuration in our branch router.
Unsure why both rip & default is configured.
router rip
version 2
network 10.0.0.0
passive-interface vlan2
neighbor 10.0.58.1
distribute-list RIP-OUT out
no auto-summary
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.58.1
vlan 2 is our local lan which is on the 10.4.2.x network.
Sorry i am new to the field, curious why we need both default & rip here.
Will default not be enough for communications.
Thanks in advance.

Routing is a two way thing.
So your router may only need a default route to send traffic to remote sites but those remote sites will need to know how to route to the local IP subnet.
As already said it depends on the topology ie. this router obviously connects to more than just a switch.

Hello,
what does the total topology of your network look like ? The default route would be sufficient indeed if there is only one connection between the routers.
Hard to say why the default route is in there without seeing the rest of your network...

Thanks, To my understanding it is simple.
Router has a link to another lan switch which is used to connect local lan users.
Flat with only one vlan- vlan 2.
