DHCP allocation

Hi friends,

Just wanted to know that where in this access patch is it suitable to configure DHCP?

DHCP Client-->3560 access switch-->4506 switch-->3560 switch-->Router.

I don't know what is the design principle for DHCP in this regard. Should DHCP server be enabled on the 3560 access switch or on 4506 switch? The existing DHCP server is proposed to be taken off.

Is it possible to assign DHCP on an interface basis in these switches? The reason being that if the path is like:

Client-->Switch1-->Switch2 and if Switch 2 is the DHCP server, then switch2 should only act as DHCP server on the port that connects it to Switch1. Is that technically possible?

Thanks a lot

Gautam

I am not sure that I fully understand your topology and your environment. But in general I believe that if you are going to configure DHCP on the Cisco router/switch, that it is most appropriate to configure DHCP on the device that has the layer 3 interface for that VLAN.
