difference between part number WS-CAC-6000W & WS-CAC-6000W=

Hi,

I would appreciate if someone can advise the following:

1. What is the difference between the part number, e.g. WS-CAC-6000W & WS-CAC-6000W=? Any Cisco links that explains?

2. Which IOS features requires us to purchase the license, which IOS comes with the switch itself? Any Cisco links that explains?

3. Any Cisco links / verification tools that help us to verify that the modules, supervisor engine, power supply, etc that we have selected works fine with our requirements?

Hi Christina,

1) There is no difference between WS-CAC-6000W & WS-CAC-6000W= , the = sign which you see just dipict a spare part if you want to order it seperately or when RMA is done.

3) This link will let you verify that the sup and chassis and line card which you hae fits the power supply

Hi,

1) the addition of the "=" just means "spare" - the parts are identical.

2) You don't say which switch, but as (1) is a 6500 power supply I guess that's what you've got ;-) If you talking about IOS then what you're really talking about is the supervisor module and which one you need is totally depenent on your requirements, i.e. do you need to support MPLS? PoE? WAN? etc.. So, I'd start here:

and read /all/ the information in the "product literature" section. It'll take a while, but you'll have a hugely increased understanding of features and options available - people here will be happy to answer more specific questions.

To clarify the SPARE part issue. Basicly if you order something like a 2810 router with a WIC and the WIC part number does not have the "=", they will install it into the router before shipping. If it has the "=", it will come in a seperate box. Of course if your vendor puls the order off of his shelf rather than ordering it from Cisco, it will probably come in a seperate box. Thats about all the difference you will notice in most cases.
