Embedded packet capture - BGP problem

Hello, I am unable to capture BGP traffic on my Cisco 1921 router (Version 15.4(2)T1) via the tcpdump IOS commands. All other traffic I can capture successfully.

Is this because BGP traffic is on a plane outside the reach of Embedded Packet Capture ?

Hi,

You should see some BGP packets, but there are some restrictions according to the following document:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/epc/configuration/15-mt/epc-15-mt-book/nm-packet-capture.html#GUID-CF6AFCF6-34DC-4B16-9406-E73C806FBD2E

Restrictions for Embedded Packet Capture

  • EPC only captures multicast packets on ingress and does not capture the replicated packets on egress.

Hi,

Not sure about that but you can also use a debug command to see bgp traffic.

debug ip bgp...

be careful if this is in production not to overwhelm the router.
