fa0/0 versus f0/0 syntax

I've been away from Cisco routers for a while, and I've spent hours trying to find where this new FastEthernet interface syntax of "fa0/0" came from. Is that "a" the second letter of "Fast", or does it mean "aggregate" or something to do with trunking or VLANs.

The "a" is there because it is the second letter in fast. Fa is an abbreviation of fast (or an abbreviation of fastethernet - depending on how you want to look at it).

Welcome back to the world of Cisco routers.
