What is the uptime of the switch?

I know there is a "time bomb" bug with 3.6.X and 3.7.X involving the extraction of package files when the switch/stack has a very high uptime of >1 year.

The "fix" is to reboot the switch and re-run the package extraction command.

Delete everything from the from the following folders:  core, crashinfo

del /f /r flash:core/*

I tried reload before start the upgrade. but it is still failed due to not enough space in flash.

Dear Leo,

the folder flash: core/* and crashinfo:* only have a few files that should have no help.

Any suggestion? What file in the flash can be removed?

Ok, let's do this by the numbers:

  1. Is this a stack of switches or a single stack?
  2. Post the complete output to the following commands:
dir flash-X:
dir flash-X:/core
dir crashinfo-X:

NOTE:  "X" means switch stack number.

Dear Leo,

Thank a lot for your help.

it is single stack:

Ooops.  Looks like I provided the wrong info.  The correct syntax should be "dir crashinfo:".

What command was used to extract the packages off the BIN file?

What is the exact error message?
Is it just saying that the flash is almost full?

Please refer to below, it seem the flash doesn't have enough space for the installation process.

Ok, I got a workaround for this stupidity:

  1. Copy the IOS to the flash:
  2. Force the switch to boot the new flash in BUNDLE Mode
  3. After the switch boots into bundle mode, clean the flash so the old files will get deleted
  4. Run the Install Mode procedure
  5. Change the boot variable string to point to the "packages.conf" file.
  6. [OPTIONAL]  Reboot the switch.

It seem I can't install from Flash directly as I don't have enough space for that. How about install from USB drive or tftp? Is it allowed? If yes, how to do so?
