Hello,
I'm looking for some documentation or anything else that might help to explain to my customer why he only records 450Mb on his Gig-e lan connections. When I try to explain the many things that subtract from the magical 1G I'm met with major skepticism.
Can anybody recommend some convincing/official documentation that I could share with my customer?
Thanks in advance!
Matt

What tool is being used to measure throughput?

Well, you're correct there are many things that subtract from gig, such a L2..L7 overhead, but more than 450 Mbps should be possible unless your equipment or configurations are precluding running faster. Unfortunately, there's much diverse documentation on the latter, and beyond devils_advocate asking about what's being used to measure throughput, it would be helpful if you (completely) explained/documented the environment.
