gigastack spanning tree status broken

I am seeing this on a series of switches 6 in a stack ranging from cat 3550, cat 2950 and old 3524s. Gigastack are set up in the usual port 1 to port 2 and so on, no redundant link. On two the the switches when you do a show spanning-tree for the gigastack interface the status is broken. Does anyone know what that means.

Hi Whanson,

The spanning tree broken status can be because of one end configured as an access port and the other end is configured as a trunk or both ends configured trunk ports but with different native VLANS.

Can you please check the port configurations and confirm if this is not the case.

Also is it possible for you to post the "sh log" from the switches?

I wanted to thank you. It appears that though a 3524 doesn't support trunking without explicit commands unlike the newer switches, you get thrown into la la land when you connect them without explicitly defining trunks or access ports.
