Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this question, but I couldn't find a more appropriate one...
I have a Cisco 6509 running CAT OS v8.4(4) experiencing some periodic high CPU utilization. The period is ~30 minutes and it reaches 100%! After running a "#show proc cpu sorted" during some of these peaks, I pinpointed the process PROTOCOLTIMER as the 'evil' process behind the CPU peaks.
I can't find a lot of info on this process but on the "Release Notes for SW Release 8.x" (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/prod_release_note09186a008019d7f0.html#wp981850) it is stated on "Resolved Caveats in Software Release 8.5(1)" that "You might experience a TLB Exception in the ProtocolTimer process. This problem is resolved in software release 8.5(1)"...
Have you guys experienced something like this before? Would you recommend an upgrade to fix this?
Many thanks in advance,
Eduardo
