Hi all
I was trying to give the following host name to my 6504 switch .It comes up with the following error.
GA-GAN0999-CIS-6504-(config)#hostname GA-GAN-CIS-6504-1
% Hostname "GA-GAN-CIS-6504- " is not a legal LAT node name, Using "CISCO_000000"
the IOS is "Version 12.2(33)SXH5"
Any suggestions on this issue?

LAT node name max is 16 characters, and your hostname is more 16 characters.
The IOS will automatically shorten the LAT node name to conform to that rule, while leaving the hostname the same.
Unless you are using LAT - which I highly doubt, you can ignore the message.

Regarding LAT, here is some information:

Thanks Edison & Lucien. Is there anything on the command line we can do to make the limitation of 16 chars to some value more than that? Just to come out of those warning messages. :-)

Either select a hostname shorter than 16 characters or just ignore the warning message. Either way, it should affect your switch as you aren't using DECNet services.
And to answer your question, no - there isn't any command in the CLI to avoid this message.
