The first step is to determine whether the 6509 supports encryption (which is required for SSH). Look in the output of show version and find the name of the image, does that name include k9? If so encryption is supported and SSH should be possible.
If encryption is supported the next step is to generate an RSA key. In configuration mode give the switch a unique host name, configure a domain name, and generate the RSA key. After this you may configure some aspects of using SSH such as whether to accept connections using both SSH1 and SSH 2, or limit connections to only SSH 1 or to only SSH 2.
