How do I find the Default Gateway for a specific VLAN on a Remote Switch

I am often in charge of installing equipment at remote locations with the help of onsite services (Servers, network sniffers, etc).  There is an IP Address request system where I specify the VLAN I want that device installed on.  After receiving the IP address, Subnet Mask, and my switch/port assignment, I have to have someone configure the device so I can remote manage.

Given this information, how would I determine what the default gateway should be?  Ideally, I should get the default gateway as part of my IP address request but I don't.  have been trying to figure out how to go about determining what the default gateway should be for the subnet my device is to be installed on.

Any help ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You can't because it could be any IP address from the range so unless you can find another device already configured in the same vlan/IP subnet there is no way of doing it.

As you say you should get it as part of your request and if you don't they are not doing their job properly. There are conventions ie. the first IP in the range is often used but again no guarantees I'm afraid.
