How to upgrade IOS version on old switches like 2950 is?

Hello all,

I would like to upgrade IOS version with the same feature set, but switch is out of support, so SMARTNET can not be bought.

Is there any way how to upgraded? Is not it possile for  free because product is discontinued so SMARTNET can not be bought?
