HSRP on SVI running both IPV4 & IPV6 (dual stack)

Dear All ,

             Its possible to run to HSRP for both IPV4 & IPV6 on single SVI ?? , If no how to achieve Gateway redudancy for SVI which is running dual stack (IPv4 & IPV6)  .

             I am using this SVI standby VIP as a gateway for my end machine . kindly let me know on this .Thank you

Hi Santoshkumar,

It is indeed possible to have hsrp running for both ipv4 and ipv6 on the same SVI as I indicated previously. Here are links to configuration example.

Hi Santoshkumar,

Yes, it is possible indeed. The only prerequesite is that you enable HSRPv2 on the interface prior to enabling hsrp for v6. HSRPv2 does provide support for both v4 and v6.

Dear Ritter ,

I am running with 6509 with following IOS Code . s72033-advipservicesk9-mz.122-33.SXI9.bin .

My requirement is to run both IPV4 & IPv6 under same SVI , is there any cisco document or sample configuration for this . kindly let me on this . Is there any limitation to run this . ??

switch A

interface Vlan100

ipv6 address x.x.x.x:976:2Cxx:10:10:126:89:1/64

ip address 10.11.11.3 255.255.255.0

switch b

interface Vlan100

ipv6 address x.x.x.x:976:2Cxx:10:10:126:89:2/64

ip address 10.11.11.4 255.255.255.0

Q. On configuring an IPv6 HSRP standby group, run into an error message: "%FHRP group not consistent with already configured groups on the switch stack."

A. Only HSRP version 2 supports both IPv4 and IPv6. So configure "standby version 2" under interface.
