I am denied access to port 23. The firewall is off. I have installed a telnet server on the remote computer.

You are trying to telnet from one computer to another computer. Is this right?

If so, why don't you just RDP into the other computer?

What is RDP? I would prefer to telnet.

Hello George,

RDP = remote desktop protocol

used in Windows systems

I guess you are trying to connect to a linux or freebsd box. Verify if telnet or SSH has to be used

Hope to help

How do I use RDP? Isn't telnet supported between two Windows computers?

Windows Vista does support a Telnet server and client, but I am having trouble configuring a password and username to actiate a Telnet session between two Windows computers.

The Telnet connection is still being denied.

Hello Ray,

RDP is the best choice for Windows PCs because they are strictly tied to GUI

to open a RDP session just go

start->accessories-> connection to remote desktop

this is on the client device (for Win XP)

the RDP service has to be active on the other PC

you can check going to admin tools - services

Hope to help

Giuseppe

I was able to get the Windows telnet connection working. This required activating both the client and server Telnet services. Also, authentication needed to be properly configured. Much of the configuration had to be done with administrator permissions. Some group configuration needed to be completed.
