ICMP ping with only some different datagrams size lost

Hello,

Could you explain technically why would it happen. For example I run a ping with sweep size option.

Reply to request 298 (9 ms) (size 1470)
Reply to request 299 (16 ms) (size 1475)
Request 300 timed out (size 1480)
Reply to request 301 (9 ms) (size 1485)
Reply to request 302 (16 ms) (size 1490)
Reply to request 303 (9 ms) (size 1495)
Reply to request 304 (17 ms) (size 1500)

and how could it be that only ~1480 Bytes packet a lost, but other with bigger size is OK. I'd assume that if it'd be something with MTU issue, bigger packets than 1480 wouldn't be passed.

And also the similar problem when i ping from the other side:

Reply to request 3896 (12 ms) (size 1465)
Reply to request 3897 (12 ms) (size 1470)
Reply to request 3898 (12 ms) (size 1475)
Request 3899 timed out (size 1480)
Request 3900 timed out (size 1485)
Request 3901 timed out (size 1490)
Reply to request 3902 (12 ms) (size 1495)
Reply to request 3903 (12 ms) (size 1500)

some more is lost, but bigger packets 1495-1500 are going OK.

Where could be  a problem ?

Thanks

Hello,

from where to where are you pinging ? Request timed out simply means that there was no response with the default 2 seconds (unless you changed that value). Increase the 'Timeout in seconds' and see if the 'problem' persists...

Hello

Are you enabling the DF bit when you initiate the ping sweep?
What is the range and interval of your sweep?

If applicable, The sweep range -interval and repeat count is all relative to the number of packets to be sent and when the DF is reached.
