Importing Switch Config of Different Switch Types

I have a Catalyst 4500 that I am getting rid of, and replacing with a Catalyst 9300. These are two different types of switches, but starting from a bare bones configuration would be like hell. Is it considered a best practice to import over the old config into the new device and then fix the incompatibilities? Or is there a more efficient way of doing this (That isn't starting from a blank switch)?

Considering not all commands are the exactly the same between an older 4500 and a new 9300, I would copy a section at a time from the old switch to notepad, make necessary changes and than paste into the new switch. Most commands should be the same but for example QOS command are different.

I think this may be the best way to go. As of right now I'm going command by command to see what differences there are. It's somewhat difficult because not every command in the new 9000s are listed and I have to do some hard googling to find the equivalent.
