Hello,
I have the same issue. Did you happen to solve it? And if you did, can you share how you solved it?

I had a similar issue. I remember removing any configured boot commands and setting it to the IOS bin file and reloading. After the reload, the stack was able to proceed with the install command and reload successfully another time to the newer version.

Hi All,
I am having a similar issue going from 16.03.06 to 16.09.05 - has anyone managed to get to the bottom of the fix for this?
--- Starting install local lock acquisition on switch 1 ---
Finished install local lock acquisition on switch 1
FAILED: Switch switch 2 boot path does not match with the active

I had the same issue, so I just reloaded the whole stack and tried the same upgrade commands again then it worked.

I had this issue come up today where switch 4 boot path was throwing the error. I did a "show version 4 r0 running" and compared it to "show version 1 r0 running" and we could see the difference in boot paths.
bootpath for 4:
File: /flash//packages.conf , on RP0
bootpath for 1:
File: /flash/packages.conf , on RP0
The extra slash caused the error. Simple fix is to set the bootpath for all switches to "packages.conf" and then reload the device. Once the device comes back up it should share the same bootpath and I was able to do the normal upgrade process from there successfully. I hope this helps someone who comes across this page in the future.
