installing additional StackAdapters for ring topology

Hello,

we have a stack of three C9200 switches.
They are stacked in daisy-chain topology. We want upgrade the topology to ring topology.
We need to install additional C9200-STACK-KIT (StackAdapter) to the first and last switch.
Can it be done with stack running or does it have to be powered off?
I get contradictory information from different Cisco skilled persons.
And I cannot find it in official documents.

Moreover, the last switch have the adapter in slot 3/1, not in 3/2.
So that the connection is
1/1 > 2/2
2/1 > 3/1 (I guess it should be 3/2).
Is adding adapters 1/2 and 3/2 and connecting them OK?
Or should we change 2/1 > 3/2 and connect 1/2 > 3/1? Then powering off is inevitable.

Hi,

I recommend doing it in a maintenance window since you need to install an additional StackAdapter in switches 1 and 3 and they usually are not hot-swappable, which means you have to turn off the switches anyway.

Hi,

"usually are not hot-swappable", that is for I mean. I cannot find a document that would tell they are or they are not hot-pluggable.
For modules I get info people prefer to power switches down.
For stacking cables most people say they usually connect them while switches are on.
I am surprised I cannot find exact Cisco statement.

Hi,

From experience over the year 20 years of working with Cisco equipment, usually the chassis-based switches e.g., 4500, 6500, 7600, etc. parts are hot-swappable and not the small 1RU switches like 3500, 3600, 9200, etc. Also, if you can't find a document stating it is hot-swappable, usually that means it is not.
