Intelligent Load Balancing w/Agents

My company is interested in implementing a load balancing solution (preferably Cisco) that is able to adjust priority (weights) based on information from agent software installed on backend servers. This would also allow us to dyanmically detect new servers and add them to load balancing groups, or remove them when no longer reachable. I've read about Cisco Catalyst 6500 and support for protocols like SASP.

Is this a viable solution? Has anyone out there implemented it successfully? Can it be used to update weights on a sub-second basis?

I've read that IBM provides software and agents that are compatible with this device. Are their any other software providers for this solution?

Are there any other ways of accomplishing the same requirement with Cisco devices?

--Thanks

It is a viable solution. As mentioned SASP provides the same functionality. It is possible on CSS 11501.AS an example we could have 2 server (SIPP33,SIPP34) load balanced by the 11501 who are calling 2 server (SQPREP50, SQLREP51)also load balanced by 11501.
