I'm looking for some resources on what the different types of IOS versions are. Specifically, I've got a catalyst 3560 switch that came with the following:
(C3560-IPBASE-M), Version 12.2(35)SE5
This version of the IOS (ipbase) does not allow for encryption and therefore I can't enable SSH.
Which out of the other available versions would allow this?
Is there somewhere that explains the features of each version?
Are licenses required for different versions?
Could installing another version introduce potentially unwanted side effects such as features that need to be configured or else they leave security gaps, incompatibilities with current configuration, etc?
Here is a list of other versions available for this switch in 12.2(35):
IP SERVICES W/O CRYPTO WITH WEB BASED DEV MGR
IP BASE WITH WEB BASED DEV MGR
IP SERVICES
ADVANCED IP SERVICES
IP SERVICES WITH WEB BASED DEV MGR
IP SERVICES W/O CRYPTO
IP BASE
IP BASE W/O CRYPTO WITH WEB BASED DEV MGR
IP BASE W/O CRYPTO
ADVANCED IP SERVICES WITH WEB BASED DEV MGR
Thanks for the help!

ADVANCED IP SERVICES WITH WEB BASED DEV MGR
has everything, encryption, web mgmt, advanced routing. (It's actually the EMI code). you need to have purchased it to legally download it.
if you upgrade to any of the advanced ios'es, be sure to read the docs on how to upgrade it.

You can legally use any "IP BASE" IOSes with your 3560. You'll need to purchase additional license for IP SERVICES and ADVANCED IP SERVICES.
As far as SSH, any IP BASE IOS should support SSH, except when it specifically says "W/O CRYPTO". Here's a link to Cisco's Feature Navigator tool that will allow you to search for specific feature: http://tools.cisco.com/ITDIT/CFN/jsp/index.jsp
