Keepalive in S2S VPN tunnel

Hi All,

I have a small confusion like I have multiple partner S2S tunnels configured on router Cisco 3845. Currently I do not have any monitoring enabled for those tunnels and we did not get notify If any tunnel goes down. So, to monitor that tunnel, firstly we need to make that tunnel up always then only we can identify if it goes down due to any network issue. There are several option like NTP sync, ICMP track etc to make tunnel alive, but all that option require a change at both end and also firewall ports open as well. So, I came to the solution to enable tunnel keep alive.

I have few queries regarding that,  I want to enable tunnel keep alive for specific peer as I want that tunnel to remain up always:

1. Is this possible to enable keep alive for specific peer, as I do not find any option?

2. If not, then If we enable keep alive, will it be enabled for all tunnels and If yes, then will there be any impact on any tunnel?

3. Is tunnel keep alive need to be enabled at both peer end.

Please suggest.
