Hi to all,

I am getting high ping response while pining to core router from any node. generally it should be 1 ms in wired network or in between 30-40 on wireless network or radio devices.

the response goes to 25 ms and in the wireless devices it is reaching even 600 ms

Hi

You should never judge latency by pinging an ip address on a switch or router logical or physical interface as it can depend on many factors such as copp/cpu and other resource factors behind the scenes of the dataplane

latency should only be judged on end to end between devices like pc - pc or else use something like ip sla which is built for specifically for these types of tests

ping will always vary now and again due to the factors above and cannot be trusted as a source for latency testing

As described by Mark, "normal" ping latencies cannot be depended on for high accuracy, and when the pinged device is a network device, they often respond to ping as a low priority task (meaning latencies are often even further inaccurate).  However, very high latencies to network devices may indicate congestion issues, but if there's such congestion, you'll normally also see high ping latencies to end-hosts through the network devices.

As also described by Mark, latency is best measured by IP SLA (on devices devoted for that purpose).
