Hi all, if I have say vlan 100 on my 2950 switch and I want to use this for management, can I put an ip address on vlan 100 on the switch so i can manage it, or does it have to be vlan 1 ?
No it doesn't have to be vlan1 you can create a vlan 100 and apply and IP address to it. If it is just a layer 2 switch only you will need to shut down vlan 1 before you can bring up vlan 100.
