Max. MTU on a Jumbo Frame Trunk Interface

Hi all,

assumed I have configured a Gigabit Interface with the max. possible MTU of 9216 byte (incl. L2 Header and Trailer)

interface g1/1

mtu 9198

or

system mtu jumbo 9198

Cisco wrote the following:

"... When you enable a port for 802.1q trunking, the switch automatically assumes that an extra four bytes of data are appended on, and increment the frame size of the L2 packet. ..."

Source: Jumbo/Giant Frame Support on Catalyst Switches Configuration Example

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_configuration_example09186a008010edab.shtml

If I configure the above-named interface as a dot1q trunk, does this raise the MTU for additional 4 bytes to 9220 byte???

Thanks!

Hakan
