Is it possible to configure MST on ASR and have rapid-pvst on 7600? can they interoperate? ASR sees no BPDUs and both are root bridges.

MST is build on RSTP engine hence I dont think you will have any problem. but why not you run the same STP on both the devices untill unless you have issues configuring the same.

Many ask question on MST interopability with PVST.

ASR supports only PVST-AG, MST-AG and MST.

I know many ask and many have no answer.

And I know it is based on RSTP. Perhaps this is more IOS-XR related.

On the Bundle-Ether I see many drops, I presume STP hellos:

106382 drops for unrecognized upper-level protocol
Received 2 broadcast packets, 123978 multicast packets

Edit:

So got it talking when I configured both ports as access. But not on the trunk. I know that MST sends untagged bpdus and per-vlan sends tagged.
