Odd rommon error

I'm trying to update a 2651XM, can get to ROMMON ok but using "dir flash:" (no quotes on console) results in a 'command "dir" not found' error.

flash: exists as a device and can be listed with the dev command and viewed without issue from the IOS ...

any ideas?

Being able to learn something is not the same thing as being able to do it for real. The only thing that exams prove is your memory.

Issue the command flash_init and then issue dir flash:

I am sure you will get an output for dir flash: this time.
