OOB connection

I need to configure something remotely for a site.however i cannot risk doing it via telnet assuming the conn may be lost in the middle of this.

How do i do it via OOB modem? how do i have the local site people to see if the OOB is properly setup and reachable?

If you want to use a modem for out of band management you can, here is a link for connecting a modem to the aux port of a router.

Most modern IOS support SSH which is another avenue you can look at, and a faster one.
