Hi there!!!
for some reason, I am not able to assign an IP address in an interface to a switch on cisco packet tracer. it used not to be like that. I usually assign ip addresses to interfaces in a switch or router effortlessly during a lab. To be honest i do not know what is wrong with the cisco packet tracer.
Sometimes you will configure a password on a switch and use the same password to access the same switch but it won't work at all. this is very frustrating. Does anyone has an idea of what is going on????????

Do u follow any book? any lab workbook? videos ? you can assign IP to SVI (interface vlan x) on L2 switches only; but you can assign IP to switchport and SVI as well on L3 switch; you must just use no switchport command.
I am not aware of any password access problems in PT; there are 2 ways to access switch and for that 2 passwords must be configured; as far as I know you can use the same password for those 2 ways (not recommended in real life)
You can find samples of simple configured small labs in PT; go to Open samples in Main File PT Menu.
Regards, ML
