We are planning to replace our Cisco7206-VXR-NPEG2 with cisco3650. I would like to know if it is good idea.

7206 is being used only for layer3 routing and one access list with couple hundred entries. One interface of router is connected to ISP and another interface is connected to Layer 2 switch (2960). Router is using 80% cpu because of the access-list, that is the reason we are planning to replace it with 3650 which is sitting off the shelf and collecting dust.

Router does not have any other configuration other than the access-list and default route pointing to ISP. I believe 3650 will be able to do the job. Any thoughts?

3650 should be able to do the job as long as you are not running NAT on the current 7206 router. You may want to make sure you have IP Services license enabled on the 3560 in case you need any advanced features like full OSPF, BGP, VRF, etc...in the future.
