Policy-Map QoS with different class

Hello,

Usually I configure QoS with a single Policy-Map that contains more classes (voice, video, data, default), that is applied to all Access Port on an Access Switch or Access Stack.

I'm wondering if instead of using the definition above (single Policy Map per Access Switch) we use one Policy-Map for each class and then apply the correspondant Policy-Map to the port where a specific device is connected to will decrease the use of the CPU (i.e. Policy-Map Voice with class Voice is applied only to Access Port where Telephony devices are connected to).

By the way I will prefere to continue to use the single QoS Policy-Map definition

Tnx for a feedback

Omar

On a switch, the policy should be supported by hardware.  If it is, don't believe you'll see any noticeable performance difference.

On a software based router, complexity of the policy and/or how quickly most traffic matches part of the policy can make a noticeable performance difference.

Tnx for the answer ...

Yes for the Access and Core/Distribution I was speaking about L3 switches (Access 3750X and Core Cat6500 SUP2T)
