Port Forwarding From X6 AC3200 Netgear Router to SG300-28P Cisco Managed Switch

Hey everyone,

I acquired a SG300-28P Managed Switch. I am having trouble getting my router port-forwarded to my switch for remote access

I have a Netgear nighthawk X6 AC3200 Router and I am familiar with the web GUI and how to navigate to the port forwarding section in the configuration

On the router I did the following

      1. Logged into Web GUI
      2. Navigated to Advanced >> Advanced Setup >> Port Forwarding |
      3. I started a custom service
      4. Service name: CISCO
      5. Protocol TCP
      6. External Port Range 22
      7. Use the same port range for internal port [Checked]
        8. Internal IP: 192.168.15.29 (Switch IP)

On the switch I have done the following

      1. I set the IP of the switch to be on the same subnet of my router which is
      2. 192.168.15.1 (Gateway) 255.255.255.224 /27
      3. VLAN1 192.168.15.29 (Switch IP) ^^ Same Subnet Mask
      4. Attached a CAT6 From the first GE(Gigabit) port to an unused port on my router.
      5. Set my Credentials on the Switch to something secure with level 15 access
      6. Upgraded to the latest firmware
      7. Navigated to Security > TCP/UDP Services >> Checked the SSH Service >> Apply>>Save Configuration
      8. Confirmed SSH Access locally
      9. Unable to SSH Remotely

Where am I going wrong here? This is all a new learning experience for me along with a lot of google searching and trial and errors and undoing changes. But I am at a loss.

My next step to is create a new VLAN and set it to another unused IP on the subnet. I currently only have the management VLAN1 setup. My goal is to remote in from work=on a slow day (SHH LOL) and study when I can as well as create remote access for a trusted coworker who also is looking to get his CCNA.

Thanks for any input

Josh
