A company just bought a Cisco 2811 router which I am installing for them. Each time I boot up this router I get the following error message:

Read only ROMMON initialized

boot:cannot open "flash"

boot:cannot determine the first executable file name on device "flash"

C2811 processor with 262144KB of main memeory

Does any one have a clue as to what the problem is and how I can rectify it?

Probably you have are missing an image in the flash or have a misconfigured bootvariable.

When the router is in ROMMON mode, issue a "dir flash:" and check to see what files you have in flash.

If you have a file which starts with "c2800.....", boot from it using "boot flash:c2800....."Once the router boots up, post output of dir flash:, sh bootvar, sh run.

If there is no image in flash, you will need to use XMODEM to recover.

Is there a flash card (CF) in the reader?

Try re-seating it.

If you have a CF reader on your PC, you can read and write to it (I believe the larger CFs use a FAT32 format).

Good Luck
