Problems pinging computers in other networks.

Hello. I've got back into cisco after a long while and I have completely forgotten what I am doing on it haha. The problem here is I can't get the PCs to ping each other, unless they are connected to the same switch. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong is it possible for anyone to point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Hello @bsimon1029384756,

You configure PCs in vlan1 in a /8 subnet. All PCs are separated different L3 equipement! That's the problem!

One possible solution:

M02rt37_1-1689241687973.png

With Gi0/0 of Router like this:

M02rt37_1-1689242153527.png

Server mail will ping PC-1

Also, change IP for the serial link:

It cannot be in the same subnet as PC!!!!! This subnet is direclty connected To Router "Workgroup Router A1".

For L3 routed link, choose /30 as mask! You nned 2 addresses only! Aslo you have to configure routing on different routers to route packet !!!

if you modify this *, PC-4 should ping PC-1:

* Modifications:

-- Find in attachement the zip file with your topology modified !

N.B: The two servers don't have Gateway.... add 100.75.192.7 as gateway!

Best regards

  1. Verify physical connections: Make sure that the cables connecting the PCs to the switches are properly connected and secure. Check for any loose or disconnected cables.

  2. Check switch configurations: Ensure that the switches have correct configurations, such as VLAN configurations, IP addresses, and subnet masks. Verify that the ports connected to the PCs are in the correct VLAN.

  3. Verify IP configurations on PCs: Check the IP addresses, subnet masks, and default gateways configured on the PCs. Ensure that the PCs are in the same subnet and have the correct default gateway configured.

  4. Check VLAN configurations: If you are using VLANs, verify that the PCs are in the same VLAN or that the switches have proper VLAN trunking configured to allow communication between the VLANs.

  5. Check for network access control: Some switches or network devices may have security features like access control lists (ACLs) that restrict communication between different networks. Ensure that there are no ACLs blocking the ping traffic between the PCs.

  6. Troubleshoot using the ping command: On each PC, open a command prompt or terminal and try to ping the IP address of the other PC. If the ping fails, take note of any error messages that are displayed. This can provide further clues about the issue.

  7. Verify switch connectivity: If the PCs are connected to different switches, ensure that the switches are interconnected correctly. Check the uplink ports and ensure that they are properly configured and operational.

Verify the configurations of the Layer 3 devices (routers or Layer 3 switches) that are connecting the switches. Make sure they have appropriate routing configurations, including the correct subnets and routing protocols.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the problem and resolve the issue with the PCs not being able to ping each other. If you provide more specific details about your network setup, I can provide more targeted assistance.

Hi @bsimon1029384756

You basically mess up the addressing. Take a look on the file attached

Thanks for the help everyone! It's working flawlessly now.
