QoS setting on Cisco7604 (Sup32 engine)

Hello,

We just set up the Cisco7604 router. The sup engine is Sup32. We only use the fiber ports on engine to connect the WAN connection.

But when we import the configuration from Cisco3845, we found the QoS setting can not be implemented.

Below is the error message:

"Shape average command is not supported in output direction for this interface configuration failed.

There is no DFC on 7604.

Is the DFC mandatory to implement QoS on Cisco7604 ?

Thanks!

It's nothing to do with DFC, it is to do with the fact that PFC QOS, which is what you use on the 7600, does not support shaping on regular ethernet ports -

Overview of Policers

Policing allows you to rate limit incoming and outgoing traffic so that it adheres to the traffic forwarding rules defined by the QoS configuration. Sometimes these configured rules for how traffic should be forwarded through the system are referred to as a contract. If the traffic does not adhere to this contract, it is marked down to a lower DSCP value or dropped.

Policing does not buffer out-of-profile packets. As a result, policing does not affect transmission delay. In contrast, traffic shaping works by buffering out-of-profile traffic, which moderates the traffic bursts. (PFC QoS does not support shaping.)

7600 PFC QOS

You can do shaping on certain modules, from the same doc as above -

The PFC2 supports only ingress PFC QoS, which includes ingress policing. The PFC3 supports both ingress and egress PFC QoS, which includes ingress and egress policing. Traffic shaping is supported on some WAN modules. For more information about traffic shaping on the OSM and FlexWAN modules, refer to these FlexWAN and OSM documents -
