Hello team,

I have some basic query on PHY loopback tests.

Is it something which is part of diagnostics to verify the hardware ?

Do you recommbed PHY loop back tests on production units as well?

Do we need an external link partner for testing PHY loopback?

Regards

Simon

Hello @simonkbaby123

It is a hardware diagnostic feature that loops the port’s transmit signal back into its receive path to verify the integrity of the physical interface. It’s primarily used for troubleshooting, but not during "normal" operation...since enabling it take the interface out of service and disrupt trafic.

An external link partner is not require for an internal PHY loopback test, though a loopback plug can be used if you need to validate the entire Tx/Rx path including the port’s connector...

Thank you for answering my query.

Once we put the phy in loop back mode how do we reset back to normal mode? Can we do this without any traffic disruption?

Do we need a reset of the switch to change mode.

Are you suggest to do the phy loop back test part of the BIT (Built in Test) production code or something out of production ?

Regards

Simon
