Questions about sfp+ ZR

Hi,

I am currently upgrading our customers link from 1GE to 10GE using their existing switch 3750-X, the distance is about 20km and we are using SFP-10G-ZR. Problem is whenever the link is down due to fiber cut or something. When the fiber is fixed we have to reset the interface i.e shutdown-no shutdown. The interace won't up by itself, this doesn't happen on the previous 1GE link. Is there anything I missed in the config I should know about..

Hi!

I am still researching about this issue but as a workaround you can use the command clear interface x/x which will not cause that much chaos as the shut no shut reset.

Hope it helps, best regards!

JC

Hi Carlos,

Thank you for the workaround. I'm guessing we still need to dispatch someone on site to restore comnectivity? after the physical fiber is restored?

Today I found out that the same happens on 3850 switches and it even happened on both 1G and 10G ZR transveiver on 4 port 10G Network Module. Is this a known bug?

What's the IOS version on the switch?  ZR optics are supported in C3750X since 15.2(1)E - you could also try ER, which should be more than enough for 20Km and is supported since 15.0(2)SE:

Cisco genuine vs. 3rd party SFP+ might also make a difference...  when the fiber is restored and the interface remains down, what does "show interface ... transceiver" report?

Hi Lulian,

We have updated the IOS version to the minimum version that supports ZR optics, where our previous versions doesn't support.

The show interface reports as if the link is still not restored. i.e interface down line protocol down
