Hi
I have a question regarding Cisco 4507 siwtch using Supervisor Engine IV WS-X4515.
I have 2 4507 switches with Dual supervisor cards in slot 1 and slot 2 respective for redundancy SSO.
Port G1/1 from 1st switch is connected to G1/1 on the 2nd switch. This is a Trunk Port.
Port G2/1 from 1st switch is connected to G2/1 on the second switch.
Supervisor card on Slot 1 in active on both Switches. Slot 2 is in standy mode on both switches.
If the Supervisor card on 1st switch fails obviously the standy will take over. My question is what will be the status of Port G2/1 will it be active or will it be down as the other end (2nd switch Supervisor is in Standby)
Will the Trunking still work or Switch 2 will loose all the connectivity to Switch 1.
If you are unable to understand I will attach a diagram
Thanks

If you want full redundancy then the port configs not only should go the same "destination" client but also be in an etherchannel. That way, when the primary card fails, the secondary card takes over and continues to pass traffic down the 2nd etherchannel.

Hi,
In order for this to work correctly, you need to create an EtherChannel between the 2 switches and add G1/1 and G2/1 to it and trunk it. This way if the primary Sup on the first switch fails, the second port (G2/1) on the backup Sup will take over and communicated with G2/2 on switch 2.
