ROMMON Mode

Hi All,

I have small doubt...

When we use ROMMON mode for password recovery we entered into ROMMON mode and the we change configuration register value to 0x2142. Post this we will reset the router. when router again boots up we will enter into a fresh configuration so that we can reset the pasword. Here comes doubt where will this fresh configuration is stored and how it is retrieved.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Leo,

As per my knowledge startup-config will be saved into NVRAM, So this fresh configuration is also stored into NVRAM?? like two files??

With 0x2142 "fresh configuration" means "bypass existing / saved startup-config" (it doesn't read and load a "fresh config" from somewhere, it just boots as if there were no startup-config at all).  If you "wr mem" just after booting with 0x2142 it will overwrite the old startup-config with a new, almost blank, config.
