Server alias on LAN with RV110W

Hi.

I've set up a static IP of 10.156.86.10 for my LAN web/ssh/smb server with a name of 'phoenix', and would like to be able to simply type \\phoenix to get to the samba shares or http:\\phoenix when on the LAN to be directed to the web server.

With my previous Linksys/cisco router, setting up a static IP was enough to make this work. What extra steps need I take with the RV110W to make this happen?

Thanks,
Colin

This is a name resolution issue.  If you use DNS internally to resolve names on your network then you need to ensure that the router is using (and distributing if it's the DHCP server) the internal DNS server.  If you don't have DNS then WINS is probably what you have to use.

Networks also support zerotouch configuration protocols like Bonjour and UPnP.  The RV110W supports Bonjour so if the other devices support that, you may still be able to see the server and services because Bonjour ports all of that information over the network to the participating devices.
