I want to setup a VLAN on a L2 switch and trunk it. Do I need any special commands that allow vlan's or trunks to carry vlan's over 1000 (ie vlan 1234).

Hi,
As such you dont need need special commands to carry the valsn on the trunk. You have to make sure that you can configure the vlans greater than 1000 on your switch. For this you should have " spanning-tree system id extended" configured on your switch..
conf t
spanning-tree extend system-id
