Hi,
Every supervisor has a firmware which is installed in its ROM and helps it to boot up in the initial stages of the boot process (when IOS has not been downloaded from the flash into the RAM). Its only in the later stages of the boot process that the supervisor boots up on the IOS image.
Firmware just builds the initial platform for the supervisor bootup and is not capable of booting up the supervisor on its own. Firmware is denoted by Fw in this output.
Sw1 just denotes the runtime version of the firmware image and practically does not mean much. Presence of an IOS image is absolutely necessary for the supervisor to bootup.
Cheers,
Shashank

Hi Ismail,
It is a supervisor engine module's boot version.
Please rate if this helped you...

Dear Naidu,
Do you mean that the 6500 will boot "Sw1: 8.4(0.61)RCC9" as a basic IOS in case the "Sw : 12.2(18)SXD6" is not available?
It will be great if you can share some links detailing these information
Thanks,
Ismail

Hi Ismail,
Sw1 indicates the Version of the firmware runtime (on the supervisor engine). This information does not make much sense as long as valid boot images for the supervisor are concerned. The supervisor will definitely not boot with the image shown beside Sw1 in case the main IOS(12.2(18)SXD) is unavailable.
This information is available at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/catos/7.x/command/reference/sh_u_v.html

Shashank

So what is the main purpose of Sw1 which is :the Version of the firmware runtime (on the supervisor engine)"? can't we boot the IOS from Sw and that would be enough ?
Thanks
