SPT Question

Hello,

I have the following setup and everything is working fine.

3 HP switches in Suite A each with an uplink to the core another HP switch, 3 HP switches in Suite B each with an uplink to the core. The 3 switches in each suite are not interconnected to each other and they don't have SPT turned on. The core switch is the only one with STP turned on.

I am replacing the Core with a new Cisco 3560 and taking the old HP core and demoting it to just a user switch. My question is should I turn off STP on the old core and have one instance of STP just on the new core or should I turn on STP on all of the switches?

Thanks for any feed back.

I hope you are talking about Spanning tree protocol.

It is simple rule - Never turn off spannning tree protocol. It always saves !!!!

Hope this helps.
