Hey guys I am re-visiting some of my L3 concepts and have built a GNS3 lab to play with in my downtime at work since I really only work with L2 and switches.
In the attached image I am able to ping from PC1 to the 14.0.0.1 interface on R1 yet I cannot hit the ISP at 14.0.0.4
I can however ping from R1 to 14.0.0.4 without an issue but when I source it from 10.1.1.1 (E3/0 on R1) it fails.
I had to use routers for the PCs however I have configured the DGW and default route as 10.1.1.1 on PC1 which I believe is correct because if I change it to 14.0.0.1 I can no longer ping 14.0.0.1 from PC1.
Any ideas? I am probably just tired and overlooking something obvious. I have attached configs for PC1 and R1 (I have the same exact issue pinging from PC2 to 34.0.0.4)
R1#ping 14.0.0.4 source 10.1.1.1
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 14.0.0.4, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with a source address of 10.1.1.1
.....
Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)

Hi,
The issue is that whatever the ISP device is -- It does not have a routing entry for you PC1 subnet 10.1.1.X

You are absolutely right, it had crossed my mind but forgot it needs a way to reply back to the ping! Thank you very much :)
