Hi ,

I have Cisco 4506E (WS-X45-SUP7-E) 2units configured VSS Mode. on the Supervisor card it have 4SFP+ ports
Port TenGigabitEthernet1/1/1-2 for VSS connection.
Can I use TenGigabitEthernet1/1/3-4 for connecting to switch (data up-link)?

Example :

-----------------------------
Interface TenGigabitEthernet1/1/3-4
 description *To Swtich*
 switchport trunk native vlan xx
 switchport mode trunk
 channel-group yy mode active
-----------------------------
TenGigabitEthernet port on the supervisor card , Are there any configuration restrictions?

Thanks,

Chonman.

Hi, there is limitations on the number of Ten Gig ports that you can use on the Catalyst 4500's, if you are already using the 1st two ports a Ten Gig, ports 3 and 4 become in active.

Hi Felipe A. Amaya,

Thank you for your reply.

You mean that I cannot use Ten gig port 3 and port 4 because it already active right?

How can I check port active status? I checked interface status on port 3,4 are notconnect.

Thanks,

Hi,

Is VSS or redundant mode, you can only use the first 2 ports and not all 4 ports on the sup.  See figure 2-18 in the same link was provided to you previously.  So, the output you posted is correct, you can only use ports 1/1/1 and 1/1/2 from each sup.

Hi Reza,

Thank you for your reply.

I just know that the Catalyst 4506E can use redundant mode also, if using in VSS.
I misunderstand that the Catalyst 4507R or 4510R with dual Sup7-E using in a redundant mode only.

Thanks.

Hi,

Is VSS mode, when using one Sup in each chassis, they are already redundant (VSS). In a single chassis environment if you have 2 Sups and run them in SSO mode than the sups are in redundant mode.  The port usage is the same for both options.

Does it make sense?
