Hi everyone,
I have tried to do a factory reset by pressing the button from the front side of the switch.
Seems to be not effective. I have tried with different timings (3 seconds - how is recommended on Cisco site, 10 to 20 seconds).
More than 4 seconds I have entered in rommon mode, and from there with console cable and specific commands you will reset the switch. But what is happening if you don't have console cable available, like an ordinary cable guy, which can access only physical access to the button ?
Till now, I don't have the solution. It is a bug, it is a security feature implemented on these products ?
The error message received on the console is the following (if you press more than 10 seconds the button):
MODE_BUTTON_RESET_IGNORED: mode button pressed for more than 10Sec and startup config is present hence not reloading.

if you get this message (...pressed for more than 10Sec...) every time regardless of the actual time pressed
then I would conclude that the button is defective (stuck in "on" position)
if the switch is still under warranty, I suggest you register this device for RMA and Cisco will probably exchange it for a new one
Products - Product Warranties - Cisco
if warranty has expired you could go as far as opening up the case having the button replaced

Unfortunatelly, we have more switches on same situation (500 pieces), so ....
