Switch Supervisor Engine to a new 4506-E

Hello,
is that possible to change the Supervisor Engine from one Cisco 4506-E to a new one?
I ask this question because we soon plan to work and it is considerable more expense when we need to expand the whole core switch.

Best regards

What model of Supervisor card is planned?

This one: WS-X45-SUP7-E

Sup7E & Sup8E have the same price points.  Better go with Sup8E.

Sup7E & Sup8E can support 4506E.

Check with your authorized Cisco vendor or Cisco AM/SE.  Sometimes it is cheaper to get a "bundle" (chassis, one power supply, one supervisor card) than do an incremental upgrade.

Thanks for your help.

We have already some 4506E running.

My Question is only if i can switch the Sup7E with the config from a 4506E to another new 4506E with the same Hardware. Will that works with the config?

Best regards

Will that works with the config?

Generally, it can.

But note that the IOS version level for Sup7E is higher compared to the old supervisor card, so there are some bits which may work and some which may not.

The most important thing to consider ain't just "will my configuration work with the new supervisor card", but rather, will my existing line cards be compatible with Sup7E.
