Switch Trunk Port

I have 2 3750G switches with a trunk configured, CORESW01 gi1/0/48 trunk, CORESW02 gi1/0/1 trunk. I purchased 2 SFP connectors for ports gi1/0/49 to create a new trunk. Is the best way to migrate to this is setup a trunk on ports gi1/0/49, connect the ports and then disconnect the existing copper? Thanks.

Hi

remember if you create 2 trunk links that are not bundled together of equal cost  between 2 switches at the same time stp will block 1 to prevent a loop

you could configure the new sfp trunk keep it shut down , put a high stp cost on the current only trunk link as traffic will still pass , then bring up your new trunk with a lower cost it will take over

or

build them into and etherchannel and then remove the old link

There probably the least service effecting i can think off without shutting down you current link
