the reason of lack of ingress queuing with current Cisco Lan switches(2960-L/X/XR, 3650, 3850)

Dear all,

I've just realized that current switch models don't support multiple ingress queues in ports, while on older switches do. May anyone know what the reason behind it? My assumption would be that these new switches just doesn't have any bottlenecks between the ingress port and the packet buffers, so there is no need for ingress queuing, but would be great to have more insight on this and not depend on guesses.

kind regards,

Gabor

Much as you suspect, current gen Cisco Enterprise switches generally have a wire-rate capable fabric for all ports, so ingress buffering is generally not an issue (as packets get queued at egress).
